Virginia Same-Sex Marriage Ban Lifted by Court Ruling

Yet another illegal state constitutional ban on same-sex marriage has been overturned, though the ruling is stayed pending appeal (CNN). This time the people of Virginia are one step closer to having their full constitutionally protected rights restored.

Following the founding spirit of the Republican party, we must stand against institutionalized discrimination and advocate for the individual. No state, through legislation, popular vote, or decree, may deny an individual the right to due process and equal protection under the law.

Here at Elephant We Ignore, we are advocates of the 14th Amendment. This Reconstruction-era amendment provides protections for the minority against the tyranny of the majority. Please join us in celebrating this victory for Virginians.
