The Great Pretenders

Things have flipped. Besides former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and other prominent social conservatives vowing to leave the party if the GOP doesn't bow to "state's rights", the Republican National Committee's response to the recent marriage rulings was CRICKETS. Democrats cheered.

When did Democrats become leaders on historically Republican issues? Further, when did Republicans who wrote the 14th Amendment become its biggest threat? Short answer: The GOP has become it's own enemy. Current leadership discards civil liberties in favor of the popular majority. Much of this is all done under the guise of broad conservatism, yet even these values aren't remotely conservative.

Social "conservatives" who put state government over individual civil liberties never stood for Republicanism in the first place. Now they're complaining when Republicans actually act like how we were founded. Interestingly, some of the same conservative groups fighting the expansion of welfare entitlements feels uniquely entitled to vote on a minority group's civil rights. This is government at its largest and most oppressive. Their departure is no real loss for our party.

We hope Republicans are starting to see the curtain lift on the fraud perpetrated against them. We can no longer argue that we are the party of Lincoln when our leadership espouses ideals of the old Confederacy. Fortunately, we have a choice. We can choose to reject "Republican pretenders" and take back our party. Otherwise, Republicans will face the same fate as our predecessors: the Whigs.
