Cliven Bundy and the GOP Confederate "Base"

Sen. Rand Paul had to backtrack on his support of federal land trespasser Cliven Bundy following controversial comments he made on race (POLITICO). This is the trouble with backing groups who align more closely with the Southern Conservative Democrats of the mid-20th Century (pro-secession, pro-states' rights/anti-fed, bad view of Lincoln and generally backward).

Warning to Republicans: These folks claim to be the "base" of the party when they are really Dixiecrats pretending to be Republicans.
