FCC: Put Down the Controller
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has an initiative to go in to newsrooms for monitoring and study. Initially announced in May 2013, the government agency's "Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs" initiative (aka "CIN") is intended to gather data on how news stories are selected at the ground level. Ajit Pai, a Commissioner at the FCC, opposes this action. According to Mr. Pai, "The government has no place pressuring media organizations into covering certain stories." (WSJ)
But still, there is a push from the Obama Administration for the government to get involved with the press. Does President Obama not realize that constitutionally protected rights are not for the government to consume and discard? This is not a game. Put down the controller.
